Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas is his first truly operatic work and the first work of English opera.This opera in the creation of music into the Italian,French opera characteristics,but also into the national folk tunes,formed its unique opera style.At present,the research on Henry Purcell’s opera is relatively scarce,so the author chooses this play as the research object of the thesis.This paper selects two arias of Dido from the opera Dido and Aeneas,and starts with the composer’s life,opera creation background and plot to analyze the character image and emotional color of Dido in detail,and takes two arias as examples to explain the musical characteristics of the cantos,in order to provide theoretical support for better singing and accurate interpretation of opera roles.
