Chinese education in Cameroon has been developing rapidly in recent years,with a lar ge number of students and deep integration into the national education system,which has a leading role in the West and Central African.As a designated textbook of the Ministry of Se condary Education of Cameroon,Hello! Cameroon has not only promoted the Chinese edu cation in local secondary schools,but also provided reference for the Chinese in elementary education in secondary schools in other African countries.However,there are problems in the actual use of Hello! Cameroon,such as the lack of teaching effectiveness and the inabil ity of the textbook to be better integrated into the local education system.Driven by these problems,this study tries to design a framework for analyzing the loc alization of Chinese teaching materials according to the Chinese teaching syllabus of Came roonian secondary schools,and theoretical perspectives on the domestic and international l ocalization of Chinese textbooks.Using statistical analysis,comparative analysis and interv iews,this study mainly analyzes the overall design and the arrangement of the content of th e textbooks,extracts the factors of localization of the teaching materials,and explores the c haracteristics of the localization of the teaching materials.Finally came to the following co nclusions:(1)The textbook is based on a theme-focused philosophy and was developed in collaboration with Chinese and Cameroonian professionals.(2)The textbook makes good u se of the localized annotation method to strengthen the practice for the pronunciation diffic ulties of Cameroonian learners.(3)The textbook incorporates rich local vocabulary and use s local illustrations to assist learners’ comprehension.(4)The textbook is close to the local s ocial life and reflects the cultural differences between China and Cameroon.However,the t extbook also suffers from the:(1)Lack of reference materials,the gap of supporting resour ces.(2)Lack of alignment between the textbook capacity and the Cameroonian secondary e ducation system.(3)The contradiction between the local content and the difficulty level of the vocabulary.(4)The mechanical exercises of the textbook,which neglect the cultivation of communicative competence.On this basis,this paper proposes the following suggestions for the innovation and construction of local Chinese teaching materials in Cameroon:(1)A dd reference materials and improve the teaching materials’ supporting resources.(2)Adjust the teaching materials’ capacity at an appropriate time to improve the compatibility with the local secondary school system.(3)Reduce the teaching materials’ vocabulary difficulty to adapt to the learners’ actual learning situation.(4)Design communicative activities to reflec t the concept of intercultural communication.It is hoped that the research results of this pap er will help Hello! Cameroon to better serve the Chinese education in Cameroonian second ary schools,have practical and effective application value for the development of local Chi nese teaching materials and Chinese teaching activities in Cameroon. |
