Research On The New Idea And Practical Application Of Wang Duo’s Vertical Axis

Wang Duo was a great calligrapher at the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty.Wang Duo once said that calligraphy is "learn only Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi",but judging from Wang Duo’s way of calligraphy learning,calligraphy by Yan Zhenqing is also one of the important factors in the formation of Wang Duo’s calligraphy style.The "Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi" is the foundation of Wang Duo’s calligraphy,and the " seal character " in calligraphy by Yan Zhenqing is also the foundation of Wang Duo’s works exhibition.Based on Wang Duo’s study of predecessors’ "new ideas",starting from Wang Duo’s study of "Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi" and Yan Zhenqing’s works,we can have a practical insight into the creative elements Wang Duo absorbed on the basis of learning from predecessors,such as the absorption of Wang Xizhi’s "technique of writing",the understanding of Wang Xianzhi’s "cursive script" and the affirmation of Wang Duo’s preface and postscript Yan Zhenqing’s Zheng Zuo Wei Tie.And the "new ideas" shown by these elements in the creation of his vertical axis works,such as Wang Duo’s "innovative" and the "Jueshi style" embodied by the transition between dots;Compared with contemporary calligraphers,the "novelty" in these vertical axis works reflects various aspects and other problems.The analysis of the above problems,as well as the summary of Wang Duo’s "new ideas",is committed to exploring the integration and application of these "new ideas" in the process of creative practice.
