In many of Wang Duo’s works handed down from ancient times, there appeared the phenomenon of using variant characters and seal script to write in script,to write in script and to write in script, which was a movement of "participating in seal script and official script" under his ancient worship thought.Wang Duo was very dissatisfied with the popularity of incorrect painting of vulgar characters at that time, and hoped that his practice of using Chinese characters could achieve the effect of "correcting the painting and being partial",and then he could achieve the vision of "correcting the painting in troubled times, being completely retro and pure".It has been more than 30 years since its birth, and it has put forward the writing purpose of "regular words and clear meaning, clear meaning and coherent",and has been practicing such words constantly. In the process of learning calligraphy in Wang Duo,Wang Xizhi,Wang Xianzhi,Yan Zhenqing,Mi Fei and others all had an important influence on the shaping of his calligraphy style. At the same time, these calligraphers also had a certain influence on Wang Duo’s calligraphy thought and writing concept. In the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,Ni Yuanlu,Huang Daozhou,Fu Shan and others also used variant characters in their own books, while Qian Qianyi,Zhou Lianggong,Dai Mingyue,Ye Lun and others who made friends with Wang Duo also studied Chinese characters intensively and influenced each other. Therefore,Wang Duo is not a case.Studying Wang Duo’s use of Chinese characters will also help to study this unique phenomenon in calligraphy in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, which will lead to deep thinking on the study of calligraphy history.
