Chinese language education in Thailand has made a good development in the last decade,but students in Thai vocational and technical schools lack enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese.How to motivate students and make them enjoy Chinese language is a big challenge for Chinese teachers when teaching Chinese language in Thai vocational and technical schools.Introducing Chinese talents into the Chinese classroom can help solve this problem.In order to give full play to the role of Chinese talents in stimulating students’ interest in learning Chinese,the author chose to introduce two Chinese talents,calligraphy and paper-cutting,into the Chinese language classroom of the vocational technical school in Thailand where I teach,based on the characteristics of the school.Based on the characteristics of the school,the students and the status of Chinese language in the school curriculum,the author designed the teaching programs for calligraphy and paper-cutting,and then introduced calligraphy and paper-cutting into the Chinese classroom according to the teaching programs.A questionnaire was used to survey the students after the talent teaching to obtain the basic information of the students,the effectiveness of the teachers’ talent teaching,and the students’ opinions on the talent teaching after the teaching.Through analyzing the questionnaire data,the author summarized the strengths and weaknesses of teaching calligraphy and paper-cutting,and then proposed suggestions for introducing Chinese talent teaching in Thai vocational schools based on the strengths and weaknesses of talent teaching and the various problems that arise in teaching.It is hoped that these suggestions will be helpful for subsequent Chinese language teachers to increase the motivation of Thai students,especially those in vocational and technical schools,to learn Chinese.The main results of the introduction of talent teaching into the Chinese classroom are: most of the students actively participated in the various activities of the talent teaching,and found the calligraphy and paper-cutting classes very interesting and the atmosphere of the classes was very active;the survey showed that most of the students liked the calligraphy and paper-cutting and hoped to learn more about calligraphy and paper-cutting in the future,and had a strong interest in Chinese talent and Chinese culture.The majority of the students enjoyed the Chinese classes after learning calligraphy and paper-cutting,and were looking forward to the subsequent Chinese courses,and their enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese grew,which is beneficial to the development of Chinese language teaching in the Thai vocational school where I teach.The shortcomings of this attempt to teach Chinese as a foreign language include:the language barrier between teachers and students makes it very difficult for teachers and students to communicate with each other,some students are not motivated to learn,and when discipline problems arise in the classroom,the teacher cannot manage the classroom discipline quickly;some classes have a large number of students,so the author cannot pay attention to all students when teaching,and inadvertently neglects some of them.In some classes,there were many students,so the author could not pay attention to all the students and inadvertently neglected some students,which discouraged students from learning.In response to this attempt to teach talent in the classroom,the author concluded the following suggestions: teachers need to choose the Chinese talent to be taught from the characteristics of each aspect of the school they teach,and teach it according to the different classes and students;teachers need to prepare lessons carefully to reduce teaching emergencies,handle the weight of theoretical knowledge in teaching talent,and strive to make talent teaching interesting;teachers need to improve classroom management skills.When discipline problems arise in the classroom,teachers need to be able to solve them quickly.
