Translation Methods For English Sentence Subjects Under The Guidance Of Communicative Translation Theory

As an important part of English sentences,subjects can reveal discourse topics and achieve semantic cohesion.Huge differences between English subjects and Chinese ones in word class,usage,and function constitute a challenge to English-Chinese translation.Currently,hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuel have great advantages,featuring efficiency,cleanness,greenness,and high calorific value.They have broad application prospects and become one of green energy transition research topics.The translation project is an informative text characterized by professional and formal language.With examples taken from the second chapter Hydrogen Demand of Global Hydrogen Review 2021,the author discusses how to identify the best Chinese translation of English subjects by adopting different translation strategies under the guidance of communicative translation.Proposed by British translation theorist Newmark,communicative translation emphasizes that while accurately transmitting the original message,the target text should be fluent and idiomatic enough to achieve a similar or even equivalent communicative effect compared with the source text.Under the guidance of communicative translation,five translation methods for English subjects are concluded:subject retention,shifting,supplement,cutting,and omission.Despite all these differences between English subjects and Chinese ones,the most common translation method for English subjects in this project is subject retention.Hence,similarities between English and Chinese subjects are also remarkable.It is hoped that this study provides more concrete methods for guiding subject translation of English sentence through communicative translation theory.With the application of the five subject translation methods mentioned above,the target text is more coherent and fluent while accurately conveying the original message.It corresponds to writing styles of the target language and facilitates comprehension,achieving a better communicative effect.
