During the development of the Chinese art world in the 20 th century,under the intricate social and economic backgrounds,artists have continued to explore,develop,innovate and create excellent art works that meet the requirements of the new era,making remarkable achievements,among which Fang Zengxian,one of the representative figures of the Zhejiang School,inherited the traditional art of the Chinese nation,combining brush and ink with modeling,showing distinct Fang Zengxian,one of the representative figures of the Zhejiang School,inherited the traditional art of the Chinese nation,combining brush and ink in a stylized way,showing distinctive national characteristics,fusing East and West,and absorbing the visual structure of Western painting based on the tradition of Chinese painting.Fang Zengxian’s personal artistic journey is relatively deep in his exploration of the issues,and his artistic ideas are valuable to our understanding of the achievements made by the Zhejiang School of figure painting,especially his creation "Saying Red Book",which is considered a red classic in the history of modern Chinese art,and this article attempts to explore this work from four aspects:The first part of the article briefly introduces the history of figure painting of the Zhejiang School,and provides a more comprehensive explanation of the historical background at that time,which is conducive to understanding the origin and development of Fang Zengxian’s creative exploration.In the second part,Fang Zengxian’s figure painting is described in terms of the derivation of his brush and ink language.Fang Zengxian studied Ren Bonian and Wu Changshuo and infused his flower and bird techniques with the stylistic methods of Western painting,forming his own unique brush and ink language,which is also an innovation of the Zhejiang School of figure painting.The third part focuses on analyzing the artistic language characteristics of Fang Zengxian’s "Saying Red Book",the background of the period,aesthetic thought,expression of artistic language,and expression of spiritual meaning,through these four subsections to focus on the exploration.Dissecting Fang Zengxian’s paintings of this period from characteristics to achievements,he not only found a new way in his creation,constantly changing and innovating,but his thoughts and achievements also had a profound influence on the later Zhejiang School figure painting.The fourth part elaborates the value and significance of Fang Zengxian’s "Saying Red Book".The focus of this paper is on the second and third parts,focusing on "Saying the Red Book" and analyzing in depth its stylistic language,the changes in artistic language.
