Rembrandt’s oil painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son" is known as "the peak of religious painting in European history".From the perspective of the development of Christian painting,oil painting The Return of the Prodigal Son is an important work in the integration of the northern and southern traditions of European painting.This paper argues that this painting embodies Rembrandt’s artistic views throughout his life.He believed that the real value of paintings should be to reflect the brilliance of human nature itself.Rembrandt’s religious works in his later years have become a model in the Dutch society where trade is free,oil painting industry is developed and religious atmosphere is strong.In my opinion,Rembrandt’s oil painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son" is a painting with transcendent noble qualities,compassionate generosity and deep feelings of love and forgiveness,as well as showing superb skill.This paper focuses on Rembrandt’s oil painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son".Firstly,it discusses Rembrandt’s life and ideological condition in his later years,Dutch social condition,and personal creation motivation.This paper analyzes the prodigal son works of Rembrandt in different periods and reveals the inner relationship between the works.This paper focuses on the analysis of the form,content and language of the works,and analyzes the spiritual connotation of the works.This paper summarizes and introduces the representative works with the theme of "The Return of the Prodigal Son" in various European periods since the Renaissance.Finally,this paper introduces the collection of this painting and its influence on the later generations.In particular,the work’s extensive influence on Russian culture.
