Question chain teaching model is an effective question mode in class.This model can not only highlight the logic and hierarchy of classroom problems,but also improve students’ critical thinking ability to a certain extent.Since the new curriculum standard is proposed,critical thinking has increasingly become the focus of talents training in China.However,Chinese traditional classroom teaching pays more attention to the inculcation of knowledge,and teachers’ classroom questioning is also lack of depth,which can’t meet the need of cultivating students’ critical thinking.Therefore,this study will focus on question chain teaching model to explore the question of cultivating students’ critical thinking.This study aims to solve the following two problems: 1.How to apply question chain teaching in senior high school English reading class based on the cultivation of students’ critical thinking? 2.What is the effect of question chain teaching in senior high school English reading class based on the cultivation of critical thinking? Based on the theory of Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives and problem continuum,this study takes thirty-nine students in class 1,grade 1 of a school in Jining as the research subjects,and uses research instruments such as test paper and interviews to explore the strategies and effects to cultivate senior high school students’ critical thinking in China.The author carried out three rounds of action research for four months in this school.Through qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data,the following conclusions are drawn: 1.Teachers should start with both instructional design and classroom teaching,and conduct question chain teaching based on the cultivation of critical thinking.In teaching design,teachers should flexibly design question chains based on the actual situation of students’ critical thinking,guided by Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives,and in accordance with the principle of systematization.Based on the problem continuum theory,teachers should focus on issues at the level of generalization,theory,application,and creativity to effectively improve students’ critical thinking ability;In classroom teaching,teachers should guide students to form an atmosphere of mutual assistance,and appropriately conduct in-depth questioning of students to promote the common improvement of their critical thinking abilities in the dimensions of analysis,reasoning,and evaluation;2.This question chain teaching has achieved ideal result,which has not only improved students’ critical thinking ability and awareness,but also enhanced students’ reading interest.The results of this study can provide suggestions for the practical application of question chain teaching,promote the development of students’ critical thinking ability and encourage students to be active learners.
