| The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)proposes that junior high school graduates are expected to achieve the fifth level of English writing ability and sets out specific requirements for each grade;it proposes activity-based approach to English learning focusing on the integration of learning and thinking,and advocates guiding students to engage in connected and progressive learning activities to develop their abilities.Writing reflects the comprehensive language use ability of second language learners and has an important status in the compulsory education.However,due to inappropriate teaching methods and heavy teaching loads,many junior high school students’ English writing ability is poor at present.There are problems such as students’ negative attitudes toward writing,inappropriate organization,incoherence and wrong mechanics.Therefore,how to improve students’ writing ability and their attitudes toward writing is one of the key issues of English teaching research.This research adopts the action research method,guided by the input hypothesis,output hypothesis and discourse analysis theory,and adopts the model of “input of text information-primary output of in-depth text-higher output of beyond text-multiple evaluation and revision” based on the activity-based approach to English learning.This research conducted two rounds of action with 36 students,aiming to research the following questions:(1)What is the effect of integrating reading with writing teaching based on the activity-based approach to English learning on junior high school students’ English writing ability?(2)What is the effect of integrating reading with writing teaching based on the activity-based approach to English learning on junior high school students’ attitudes toward English writing?After a semester of teaching research,the results showed that:(1)Integrating reading with writing teaching based on the activity-based approach to English learning can improve the English writing ability of junior high school students,and the content,words,language,organization and mechanics have significant improvement.(2)Integrating reading with writing teaching based on the activity-based approach to English learning can improve junior high school students’ attitudes toward English writing,which is reflected in three dimensions: feeling,cognition,and behavior tendencies. |
