| Hong Sang-soo,as a leading figure in South Korea’s independent film movement, has so far created a total of 28 feature-length films and 4 short films. His works show the creation characteristics of low cost, small production and high output, and show the artistic style of consistent theme, minimalist image and fuzzy narration. He is not only honored in the Korean film industry, but also unique in the world film industry. In 1996,Hong Sang-soo won the Best New Director Award at the 17 th Korean Cheongyong Film Awards for his debut film The Day the Pig Fell into the Well.He drew wide attention for his unfamiliar film language, which has never been seen in the Korean film industry. In 2004,he entered the main competition of Cannes International Film Festival for the first time with his film Woman is the Future of Man.Throughout Hong Sang-soo’s film works,he is obsessed with observing the living state of contemporary people through the triangular relationship between men and women, intentionally breaking down the bondage of morality to emotions, gazing at the subject of desire with a fixed long lens in the state of dreams and extreme drunkenness, and revealing the absence and scarcity of human beings. As the first writer and director in South Korea,Hong Sang-soo cannot be ignored in the South Korean film industry. His film works have attracted high attention and there are a lot of related academic researches. In contrast, domestic research on Hong Sang-soo’s films is not enough, and there are few systematic studies on Hong Sang-soo’s films with psychoanalytic theory. Therefore, from the perspective of psychoanalysis, this paper will analyze the cultural consciousness and spiritual connotation under the aesthetic characteristics of Hong Sang-soo’s films. This paper consists of five chapters, taking psychoanalysis as the theoretical path, combining Freud’s instinct theory, dream theory, anxiety and psychological defense mechanism theory,Christian Metz’s "film and dream" theory and Lacan’s mirror theory, gaze and desire theory,to analyze and study the aesthetic characteristics of Hong Sang-soo’s films. The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly introduces the research background, research status, research ideas and methods. The second chapter from the psychoanalytic theory and Hong Sang-soo film this two aspects of the theory and the research overview of his works. The third chapter uses Freud’s dream interpretation theory and Christian Metz’s "Film and dream" theory to analyze the dream image and the exquisite and concise aesthetic narrative form in his works. The fourth chapter uses Freud’s instinct and desire theory to look directly at human nature, cold view of love,to explore the contradictory connotation of life ontology by the game between life instinct and death instinct. The fifth chapter focuses on the psychological characteristics of loneliness, absurdity and anxiety of the intellectual class, the subject of the film, and explores the inner complexity and entanglement of the group by Freud’s psychological defense mechanism and Lacan’s desire gaze theory,as well as its audio-visual aesthetic characteristics and concise and awkward aesthetic feelings. |
