| Lu Xun is a famous literary scholar and thinker in modern Chinese history,and the ideas contained in his works have played an important role in enlightening modern Chinese people to criticise the old system and old culture,and to think about the development of Chinese society.Lu Xun belonged to a group of intellectuals in the transitional period,with knowledge of both the old and the new;experience of study and work at home and study abroad;literary achievements and profound observations of social issues.These rich experiences are an important source of his analysis and judgement of society that is different from that of ordinary intellectuals.For a long time,scholarship has concentrated on Lu Xun’s literary achievements,neglecting his historical and historical achievements.Like his contemporaries,Lu Xun had a solid background in history.He used historical thinking to think about revolutionary issues,and his writings were highly evocative,imbued with a rich sense of historical responsibility and mission.Throughout his life,Lu Xun read many history books and wrote about China’s primitive,slave,feudal,semi-colonial and semi-feudal societies,as well as commenting on the spread of Marxist doctrines in China.His discourse on history and society has the sense of responsibility and insight of a historian,as well as the infectious power of a man of letters and the rallying cry of a thinker.Therefore,summarising Lu Xun’s historical legacy will not only help to enrich our knowledge of Lu Xun,but also deepen our grasp of the sense of responsibility of the intellectuals of the 1920 s and 1930 s.Taking Lu Xun’s historical thought as the main object of study and The Complete Works of LU Xun as the primary historical source,this article consists of an introduction,four sections and a conclusion.The first part discusses Lu Xun’s time and his experience of studying abroad;the second part discusses the academic debate on Lu Xun’s idealistic and materialistic view of history,as well as his understanding of the idealistic or materialistic view of history as revealed in his writings;the third part introduces Lu Xun’s judgement of historical events during the New Democratic Revolution;and the fourth part focuses on Lu Xun’s historical practice.The fourth part focuses on Lu Xun’s historiographical practice.The concluding remarks are an overall assessment of Lu Xun’s thought of history. |
