| The thesis serves as an E-C translation report,the source text of which is a short science fiction entitled Adolescents Only written by Irving E.Cox.Based on the E-C translation,the translator chooses typical cases to study and analyze.The novel tells an abnormal story between a high school teacher and his students after they met an alien“rocket”.The theme related to the contradictions between adults and teenagers is implied in this novel,which makes it full of education meaning to some degree.The logic of Adolescents Only is stringent and contents are attractive.And the ending brings a turning point for readers,which makes the novel more appealing.The thesis aims to explore the strategies and methods about science fiction translation from the perspective of Functional Equivalence put forward by Eugene A.Nida.The thesis is started with the generalization of the science fiction translation at home and abroad as well as their main researching contents and introduces the Functional Equivalence.Then,in the thesis the language features of the source text are generalized through analyzing those typical cases.Besides,under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence analysis and studies related to the techniques and strategies of science fiction translation from the aspects of words,sentences and texts can be found in this thesis.Through the completion of this E-C translation practice and the report,the translator summarizes some feelings and gains about science fiction translation.For example,the translator should keep the Functional Equivalence in mind all the time and pay more attention to the important translation consideration,the reading feelings of the target readers.In addition,as the Functional Equivalence emphasizes on,the target text should be smooth and natural and the target text’s contents should contains core information of the source text and the target readers should have the similar reading reaction with that of the source text.Finally,in the process of the translation,the translator learns to put words and sentences as merely forms conveying information.Therefore,it is necessary to break such forms to reach for the information under some circumstances.Besides,based on the process of the translation,the translator holds a view that the Functional Equivalence plays an important role in guiding the translation by combining the features of the source text.And the Functional Equivalence promises the final translation to be one that target readers are more likely to have similar reading feelings with those of the source text. |
