| In recent years,significant amount of interest in reading detective fiction has been demonstrated among Chinese people,especially for those introduced from abroad are more favored by Chinese readers and a large number of Chinese versions have emerged,but the overall quality of these translations still needs to be improved.According to the study,there are a considerable number of studies on foreign detective fiction in China,however,studies on translation of detective fiction are rarely seen.Therefore,it is necessary to further study the translation of detective fiction.Long Road to Mercy is the first novel in the FBI Special Agent Atlee.Pine series by David Baldacci.This report mainly carries on the translation practice to some chapters of this work and by adopting the functional equivalence theory proposed by Nida as the guiding theory.The main reason to choose this theory as the translation standard is that the four requirements of a good translation put forward by Nida is very suitable as the guiding principle of this novel.Particularly,the target readers should respond in the same way as the readers of the source language proposed by Nida,which coincides with the purpose of this novel.Therefore,the selection of this theory is conducive to the success of this translation practice.This report consists of five parts:chapter Ⅰ mainly gives a general introduction to the background,significance of this practice,the author and the work.Chapter Ⅱ is the process of the practice,including three parts:pre-translation preparation,translation expression and post-translation proofreading.Pre-translation preparation mainly includes:collecting background information,preparing translation tools and related materials,selecting and analyzing parallel texts,and selecting translation theory.Translation expression mainly involves the use of tools and the processing of translation details.Post-translation proofreading is mainly done by translators,tutors,classmates and readers.Chapter Ⅲ gives a brief introduction to the functional equivalence theory,and analyzes its guiding significance to the translation of detective fiction.Chapter Ⅳ is the case study,which analyzes the feasibility of output production under the guidance of theory.It mainly analyzes the equivalence achieved in translation practice from words,expressions,grammar,text and style,and summarizes the translation skills adopted under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory.Chapter Ⅴ is the summary,which mainly includes gains and limitations obtained in the translation process.Through this translation practice,the author aims to accumulate experience in translating detective fiction,master more translation strategies and methods,and to provide useful guidance for the author’s future translation work.Meanwhile,the author also hopes to provide useful reference for the translation of detective fiction. |
