The Study Of Gramsci’s Practical Philosophy

Antonio Gramsci is not only a famous philosopher,but also the founder of the Italian Commun ist Party.His practical philosophical thought,which arose in the 1930 s,was a profound understandin g and unique understanding of Marx’s philosophical views put forward in the context of the new issu es of the times,and provided a guide to action and a theoretical basis for the Western proletarian rev olutionary movement.The thesis examines the significance brought about by Gramsci’s practical phil osophical thought by sorting out its main ideas,which include the following four aspects:First of all,the intellectual background of the emergence of Gramsci’s practical philosophy is so rted out.It is discussed in terms of both historical background and theoretical origins.The thesis arg ues that the rapid spread of fascist forces awakened the revolutionary consciousness of Gramsci and t he persecuted underclass;the experience of the triumphant October Revolution did not prevent the d efeat of the proletarian revolution in Western Europe;the inheritance of the practical views of Marx and Labriola,the criticism of Croce’s philosophy of history and the emergence of Leninism all togeth er contributed to the birth of Gramsci’s practical philosophy.Secondly,the main ideas of Gramsci’s philosophy of practice are examined.The thesis focuses on practical monism,the relationship between theory and practice,the nature of man,historicism,an d cultural hegemony.The thesis argues that practical philosophy emphasises the unity of theory and practice;advocates the need to change the external world through practice,in which the essence of m an lies;points out the need to carry out cognitive and practical activities under historical conditions with the attitude and method of absolute historicism;and ultimately realises the theory of practical p hilosophy inseparably from the seizure and mastery of cultural hegemony.Thirdly,the relationship between Gramsci’s ideas on practical philosophy and Marx’s philosoph y is analysed.Gramsci’s distinctive position on practical philosophy is set out through his critique an d transcendence of the old materialism and idealism that preceded Marx;after analysing and examini ng the critique and transcendence of practical philosophy on the old materialism and idealism,the th esis concludes that Gramsci and Marx have commonalities and differences at the worldview,historic al view and epistemological levels.Finally,the significance and inspiration of Gramsci’s philosophy of practice ideas are presented.The thesis argues that philosophy of practice has prompted scholars within Italy to incorporate the c oncept of practice into historicist studies;provided an ideological source for European communism;l aid the ideological foundation for the development of the Italian communist party building and social revolutionary movement;several philosophical schools such as the Yugoslav School and the Frankf urt School have improved and enriched their theories through the inspiration of philosophy of practic e thought;philosophy of practice thought has also inspired contemporary Chinese society to The sig nificance and value of combining theory and practice;the need to give full play to the leading role of intellectuals in the construction of socialist culture;the need to hold fast to socialist cultural position s;and the need to widely practise socialist core values.
