In this paper, four modal adverbs in modern Chinese,"Qi Shi(其实)""Que Shi(确实)""Zhuo Shi(着实)"and"Wei Shi(委实)",which all contain"Shi(实)"in the morpheme of word formation, are selected as the research object and classified as"X shi(实)"modal adverbs.Based on the observation and analysis of specific linguistic facts, this paper describes and studies modal adverbs of"X Shi(实)"from multiple perspectives by adopting the methods of combination of description and explanation, synchronic and diachronic, qualitative and quantitative, and comparative analysis,so as to explore their internal differences and interactive restriction mechanism in three planes. The full text is divided into five chapters as follows:The first chapter is the introduction. The introduction section mainly introduces the research object of this paper, namely the four modal adverbs of"Qi Shi(其实)""Que Shi(确实)""Zhuo Shi(着实)"and"Wei Shi(委实)",as well as the research significance and research status. At the same time, explain and summary the proposed research method and the source of corpus.By sorting out the research status,it is found that the comparative analysis of the modal adverbs of"X Shi(实)"in existing papers lacks the comprehensive comparison of the four, and there are gaps and deficiencies in the case studies of"Zhuo Shi(着实)"and"Wei Shi(委实)",and most of the studies are based on the second language teaching and error analysis, and the depth and breadth of the exploration of the words need to be improved. The second chapter on the basis of diachronic investigation of the grammaticalization process and developing motivation of the"X Shi(实)"modal adverbs.Part of the diachronic description in this paper comes from the ancient Chinese corpus of Peking University.Based on the corpus study, this paper explores the grammaticalization process of the four words"Qi Shi(其实)""Que Shi(确实)""Zhuo Shi(着实)"and"Wei Shi(委实)"one by one,and probe into the commonality and personality in the grammaticization process.Through the analysis,it is found that the grammaticization of modal adverbs of"X Shi(实)"is closely related to the driving factors such as semantic change, syntactic position change, interactive subjectivity and high frequency use.Under the joint action of various resultant forces, the grammaticization process of this stage is completed.Chapter three mainly analyzes the syntactic comparison of the"X Shi(实)"modal adverbs based on the corpus empirical study.Taking the contemporary Chinese corpus developed by Center for Chinese Linguistics of Beijing Language and Culture University(CCL)as the main analysis basis.Antconc corpus retrieval statistical software was used to batch process the retrieved corpus. The modal adverbs of"X Shi(实)"are investigated from syntactic position, sentence class distribution and co-occurrence through statistical analysis. In terms of syntactic position, the flexibility of"Qi Shi(其实)""Que Shi(确实)"is higher than that of"Zhuo Shi(着实)""Wei Shi(委实)".In the distribution of sentence classes, there are similarities and differences in the selection of different sentence classes within the modal adverbs of"X Shi(实)".In terms of co-occurrence,this paper mainly investigates the co-occurrence of"X Shi"with personal pronouns and the emphatic verb"is",and reveals its development status through co-occurrence analysis.Based on the theory of position expression in interactive linguistics,Chapter four discusses the generality and individuality of"X Shi(实)"modal adverbs in position expression. In the modal adverb of"X Shi",which has the meaning of"to confirm the fact","Qi Shi(其实)"contains expectation and anti-expectation,while"Que Shi(确实)""Zhuo Shi(着实)"and"Wei Shi(委实)"only contain expectation. This study reveals the difference between positive and negative positions of different words. The fifth chapter is the conclusion. It is a summative summary of the content of this article, and points out the existing deficiencies of the article.
