With the increased emphasis on basic education in China,reform efforts have been carried out in a coordinated and orderly manner.The quality of teaching and learning is also directly related to the teaching mode and pedagogy,which are the most direct carriers of teaching activities.At present,the current situation of English teaching in elementary school is not optimistic,and the single form of teaching such as "teacher-fronted" makes most students think that English learning is boring and uninteresting,and even have aversion and resistance to the English subject.English education is still the mainstream of English education today,and English education cannot play its role of influencing the language development of primary school students.Aesthetic education is an education that stimulates students’ aesthetic emotions through art and beauty,cultivates their hearts and minds,helps them to establish correct aesthetic concepts,and cultivates and develops their aesthetic perception,aesthetic experience and aesthetic creativity.Therefore,as an elementary school English teacher,we should start from teaching materials,which are an important teaching tool,to explore the aesthetic elements contained in them,so as to cultivate students’ aesthetic awareness,improve their interest in language learning and expression,and strengthen their aesthetic and learning abilities.Therefore,based on the previous studies,the author first analyzes the aesthetic elements in the five aspects of pictures,content,structure,binding,and language in the New Start English textbooks for People,and analyzes the current situation of the application of these aesthetic elements in elementary school English teaching through the results of questionnaires,interviews,and classroom observations,finds the problems in their application in teaching,and makes corresponding analysis for these problems,reasons analysis.Secondly,the theories of receptive aesthetics,visual communication and sensory education are used as the theoretical bases of this study.Under the guidance of these theories,we present the beauty of the pictures of the teaching materials,explain the beauty of the content,or present more diverse aesthetic elements with the help of multimedia and other tools,and increase various forms of teacher-student and student-student interaction,so as to link students’ multiple senses such as hearing and seeing,so that students can perceive and experience the beauty of the teaching materials and English,and learn to use the English language in the teaching materials.In this way,students will be able to experience the beauty of teaching materials and English and learn to use the English language in teaching materials for creative presentation and communication.Based on these theories and practices,the author tries to integrate the aesthetic elements in the teaching materials into the primary English classroom to form the AWPP teaching model,so as to improve students’ aesthetic perception,aesthetic experience and aesthetic creativity,and to learn and use English better,as well as to help teachers improve their own teaching and aesthetic literacy.Paying attention to and making full use of the aesthetic elements in English teaching materials and combining them with multimedia and other teaching tools to arouse students’ interest in learning are undoubtedly important measures to improve English teachers’ sense of teaching efficacy and a key means to improve the quality of English teaching. |
