Under the background of information technology,the way students acquire information has changed from the original single text mode to the multi-mode form represented by text,charts,audio and video,etc.So,The General Senior High School Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition,2020 Revision)(here in after referred to as the“New Curriculum Standards”)has added the “Viewing”skill on the basis of the four skills,such as listening,speaking,reading and writing.In order to meet the requirements of the “New Curriculum Standards” on cultivating students’ ability of“Viewing”,the Senior High School English New Textbooks Published by People’s Education Press has added Video Time section,which aims to enrich and expand the thematic significance of the unit and promote the comprehensive development of students’ English language ability through multi-modal resources.Through the investigation and research on the teaching status of Video Time section,this study can know about the actual utilization status of Video Time section in the senior high school English new textbooks,so as to enrich teaching theories of Video Time section in new textbooks,and provide suggestions for senior high school English teachers in our country to use the Video Time section for audio-visual teaching.The paper uses questionnaire,classroom observation scale and interview outline as research tools,and takes senior high school English teachers in H city,Anhui Province as research objects to investigate the teaching status of Video Time section in new textbooks.By combing relevant literature at home and abroad,this paper studied teachers’ attitude towards Video Time,cognition,teaching behavior of cognitive skills oriented to “Viewing”,external influencing factors and needed help.The paper aims to explore the following three questions:(1)What is the overall teaching status of Video Time section in the senior high school English new textbooks published by People’s Education Press?(2)What are the problems in the teaching of Video Time section in the senior high school English new textbooks published by People’s Education Press?(3)What are the reasons of the teaching problems in the Video Time section in the senior high school English new textbooks published by People’s Education Press?The research results show that:The overall teaching status of Video Time section in the senior high school English new textbooks published by People’s Education Press is relatively general.Although teachers have a clear understanding of the content design of this section and believe that this section has great teaching value,the positive attitude of teachers towards this section is inconsistent with their teaching behavior.Specifically,the main performances are as follows:(1)From the perspective of attitude,senior high school English teachers tend to conduct Video Time –based teaching on the whole,but they do not pay enough attention to it.(2)In terms of cognition,teachers have a clear understanding of the content design of this section and generally agree with the content design of this section.At the same time,teachers also point out some problems about the design of this section.(3)In the dimension of teaching behavior,on the whole,teachers have a high frequency of teaching behavior pointing to the cultivation of students’ low-order cognitive skills of “viewing”,but their performance pointing to the cultivation of students’ higher-order cognitive skills(Evaluation and Application skills)is poor,and have their own limitations in the teaching behavior of cultivating students’ different cognitive skills.In addition,high schools in different regions and teachers in different ages have different influences on teachers’ teaching behavior.(4)In terms of external factors,teachers are mainly restricted by relevant theoretical guidance,practical training,teaching resources,teaching time and teaching evaluation in the teaching of video time.(5)In terms of the help needed,teachers urgently need the help of theoretical guidance,practical training,teaching time,teaching resources and evaluation guidance.The existing problems are as follows: Teachers’ interpretation of Video resources is not comprehensive;The design of classroom activities is monotonous;Lack of cultivation of students’ higher cognitive skills;Lack of after-class reflection;Neglect of after-class tracking of “viewing” skills.The reasons for the above problems are: Lack of theoretical guidance and practical training;New Curriculum standard study is not in-depth;Lack of sufficient teaching time,which affect teachers’ teaching of Video Time section.Based on the research conclusion,this study mainly put forward the following four suggestions: Study “New curriculum Standards” deeply,deepen cognition;Enrich classroom teaching activities in video time;Make full use of video resources of Video Time section,comprehensively cultivating students’ cognitive skills;Timely reflect the teaching in Video Time section,so as to provide a reference for the improvement of relevant theories of video Time and the promotion of the Video Time teaching. |
