Project Section in PEP Senior High School English Textbooks(2019 Edition)is a learning activity based on Project-based learning.This activity is helpful to improve the core quality and emphasize quality education.It conforms to autonomous and cooperative learning strategies advocated by National English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School(2017 Edition).The purpose of this study is to investigate the teaching of Project Section,find out the problems existing in the teaching process,and put forward corresponding suggestions.Considering that PEP Senior High School English Textbooks(2019 Edition)have been widely used in Hebei Province,200 senior high school English teachers from Hebei Province are invited as participants.This study mainly investigates the following questions: teachers’ views on Project Section,teachers’ teaching of Project Section,and teachers’ needs and difficulties in the teaching process.The research instruments are questionnaire and interview.In this study,SPSS 26.0 is applied to process and analyze the quantitative data.Then 10 teachers participating in the questionnaire are randomly selected for the interview to further explore specific reasons and details.Research results show that:(1)Teachers generally approve the content design and activity design of Project Section,believing that content design is related to real life and activity design has rich forms.It provides a platform for communication and cooperation;(2)Teachers’ enthusiasm in the teaching process does not match the degree of views on Project Section;(3)In the process of teaching this section,teachers are willing to try new methods in evaluation,but there are technical difficulties in the actual operation;(4)Teachers think it is difficult to carry out Project Section due to students’ level,cultural background knowledge and class hours.At the end of the study,implications are put forward from perspectives of textbook compilers,organizers of teacher training and teachers themselves.Textbook compilers need to design extended materials related to topics of Project Section,which can provide reference information and enrich background knowledge for students and teachers.For organizers of teacher training,they need to arrange lessons to teach teachers how to use new and popular techniques to make diversified evaluations of a project work.As for teachers themselves,they need to actively study Project-based learning and master proper steps to carry out a project task.They also need to pay attention to researches of Project-based learning so as to combine theories and practices for the joint and sustainable development.
