With deepening globalization, communications between different countries have been on the rise in various fields such as economy, culture, technologies, and science.Although the pandemic is still rampant, globalization has never stopped its pace.Nowadays, more and more foreigners introduce their own social, historical, and cultural pictures online,to which consecutive interpreting has contributed a lot.As a form of cross-cultural communication, consecutive interpreting helps overcome cultural barriers for mutual benefits in win-win games. The present report is based on the writer’s practice as an interpreter for the online lecture entitled “Feudalism in Japan and Europe”.Using this short online lecture as a case study, the report sets out to describe the background of the following three aspects:pre-interpreting,on-site interpreting, and post-interpreting.Then based on the interpretive theory, the report employs its emphasized triangle model to summarize the merits and demerits of the interpreting process. The major problems with the writer’s practice include the following three points: loss of information, misinterpreting, and excessive domestication. In the process of summarizing some interpreting experience from the perspective of the interpretive theory, the report highlights the importance of “separation from the source language” or deverbalization and comes up with the following four strategies for effective interpreting: addition, omission, reorganization, and free translation.Reflecting on the practice, the writer has realized that the three main factors affecting the quality of interpreting are bilingual ability, psychological quality, and pre-interpreting preparation. To do better in these aspects, the writer puts forward relevant coping methods. What the present paper has summarized and analyzed has laid a fairly solid foundation for the writer’s further studies, and hopefully will provide some reference of value for those students of a level similar to the writer’s and for other beginning interpreters in the future. |
