| Globalization and the outbreak of pandemic see the increase of uncertainty and instability in the world, conflicts caused by misunderstanding among countries are mounting, hence communication is needed to resolve contradictions.President Xi noted that storytelling is the best way for international communication. Now we have the capacity to tell Chinese stories well, which in turn demands us to upgrade our narrative methods. So,telling Chinese stories with various vehicles will be conducive to enhance China’s international communication capacity.Based on narrative theory, this thesis classifies diplomatic cases into four major periods after 1912,and selects those of historic significance to demonstrate how interpreters participated in the construction of the diplomatic narrative together with the impact of times, which can be seen from the helplessness of diplomatic cases of the Republic of China(1912-1949),the independence in the earlier stage of the founding of the People’s Republic of China(1949-1978),the inclusiveness after the policies of Reform and Opening up(1978-2012)were carried out and the confidence in the New Era(2012-2022).The presence of interpreters remains invisible throughout the diplomatic history but of great significance in the diplomatic narrative. The author discusses the narrative construction of translation in diplomatic activities and analyzes how interpreters strengthen, weaken or even alter the narrative in the original text by adopting proper strategies.Interpreters of different periods bear the mission of their own times. This study focuses on their wisdom and the sense of responsibility so that interpreters of the new era could learn from them and help to make a positive international image of China on the changing international stage. |
