| Huanggang is rich in Zen culture,as early as the Tang and Song dynasties.Zen culture has taken root in this land,the establishment of many zen temples.In the way of the inheritance of the faith of the Chan sect,the four ancestors Daoxin and the five ancestors Hongren were born.Daman Hongren passed the mantle to Huineng Huineng in Huangmei County,Huanggang.The four ancestors temple and the five ancestors temple were the dojo of Michinobu and Daman Hongren respectively.Daman Hongren created the “Dharma Gate of Higashiyama,” a symbol of the sinicization of Buddhism--the birth of Zen,or Indian Zen into Chinese Zen.Daman Hongren’s three points of view in the supreme doctrine embody the Zen philosophy of Higashiyama’s Dharma sect,which states that “All sentient beings have the buddha nature of vajra”,“There is no better way than to keep the true nature of the origin”and “The supreme bodhisattva must be able to see the nature from the bottom.”.The main research object of this paper is Daman Hongren’s “Higashiyama Dharma Gate”,and under the influence of the five ancestor temple clay arhat statue.The birth of the statue of Arhat is a manifestation of the secularization tendency of Zen Buddhism.In particular,the sixteen clay statues of Arhat in the Main Hall of the five ancestors temple are the most typical,through comparative analysis,the author finds that there are many similarities between the Sixteen Arhats of Wuzu Temple and the Sixteen Arhats of Zijin Nunnery.The Arhat of the five-ancestor temple is divided into two types in the style of statues,the “Wild and elegant appearance” represented by the eminent monk Guan Xiu of the five dynasties and the “Worldly appearance” represented by the painter Zhang Xuan,among them,the images of the river-crossing arhats and the dragon-lowering arhats are the images of the Brahma monks,which are closer to Guan Xiu’s“Wild and elegant appearance” in artistic expression.Another kind of evaluation wine arhat,meditation arhat and meditation arhat,look serene more close to the reality of the image of the monks,the performance techniques for the“Appearance of the world.”. |
