| The internationally renowned composer Chen Yi has created a large number of excellent a cappella works,most of which have a common feature,that is,they are rooted in traditional Chinese music materials and use modern Western composition techniques to create.Focusing on the feature of the fusion of China and the West,this paper specifically analyzes Chen Yi’s a cappella composition techniques at different stages.The formation process of creative style.Taking time as a clue,the author designs the article into three chapters along the historical footprint of Chen Yi’s a cappella creation:The first chapter is the first stage of the composer’s chorus creation after he traveled to the United States.The time corresponds to before 2000.The author focuses on analyzing the composer’s innovative processing of pitch materials—one of which is the direct use of the pitch level "1" and "6" are the main atonal pitch materials;the second is to use the pitch set theory to disorder and atonalize the pentatonic pitch materials;the third is the use of the non-musical new "sound" and "tone".The second chapter,corresponding to the chorus creation between 2000 and 2010,mainly analyzes the sound block technology of composers with personalized design,and explores composers by exploring the composition mode,aggregation and deformation,harmonic characteristics and operation mode of sound blocks.How under the influence of the sound block technology with the characteristics of Western modernity,it also revealed the concept of traditional Chinese music composition.The third chapter mainly analyzes the composer’s a cappella works after 2010.The composer regards sound construction as the most important consideration in music creation at this stage.Therefore,the author focuses on the three important musical elements of pitch,timbre and texture.Beginning with the analysis of the main reasons and manifestations of acoustic changes in the chorus works at this stage,and revealing the composer’s technical language of fusion of Chinese and Western compositions at this stage.Composer Chen Yi’s a cappella works show increasingly obvious features of Western modernity over time,but at the same time she consistently adheres to her "mother tongue" culture,that is,insists on using traditional Chinese musical materials.It is for this reason that her works sound both contemporary and ethnic. |
