| Giorgio de Chirico(1888-1978)was the founder of the Italian School of Metaphysical Painting and an important figure in the Surrealist genre, and has a significant place and weight in the evolution of Western art history. This paper focuses on the ’metaphysical’ part of Quirico’s paintings, and examines them from the perspective of the pictorial language of painting, drawing on theoretical knowledge and research methods of documentary, pictorial and inductive analysis. The theoretical knowledge and research method is seen as an individual art practitioner who considers how the philosophical thinking, symbolic constructions, etc.behind Kirikou’s metaphysical paintings are brought into the creation of art, even allowing them to dominate the spirit of his work. The thesis provides an in-depth discussion of Quirico’s metaphysical painting through an analysis and elaboration in five sections: in the first introductory chapter,a general overview of the background and thinking behind the article’s research is first presented. In the second and third chapters the essay formally traces the causes of the formation of Chirico’s artistic style and elaborates on the four different periods of transformation in the development of his painting. The essay then turns to the metaphysical period of Chirico’s painting, examining the pictorial language of this period with examples of multiple perspectives, temporal juxtapositions, colour and light, and symbolic constructions. Finally, building on previous research, the thesis analyses practical applications and highlights the practical implications of the research, which includes the influence and use of metaphysical painting. |
