E-C Translation Of Technical Terms And Sentence Patterns In Sci-Tech Texcs

Advances in science and technology are important drivers of social and economic development.Increasing international scientific and technological activities lead to a growing need for CE/EC translation of scientific and technological texts.Term translation can reflect technological performance and changes,while the translation of complex sentences has always been another difficulty in sci-tech texts translation.Moreover,English for science and technology is written in professional and logical language,thus causing higher requirements for language style and information fluency.Based on five scientific and technical text materials of a technology company and from the perspective of the domain experts(engineers),the paper discusses five term and sentence translation problems of scientific and technical texts,and provides corresponding translation solutions.This thesis adopts the methodology of quantitative analysis,comparison and induction to collect the data and analyze how domain experts revised the writer’s translation.Based on previous studies,the thesis offers three strategies in term translation: ensuring accuracy of term translation,adopting zero-translation strategy and maintaining consistency in term translation.On syntactic level,the thesis suggests to mainly adopt literal translation strategy and to follow the unified documentation style.Secondly the paper suggests to appropriately use the strategy of free translation to accurately and fluently convey the information.It is hoped that this thesis will provide some reference for other translators when dealing with scientific and technological texts,and will offer some inspiration for further studies in translation comparison between domain experts and language specialists.
