| Egon Schiele was a representative figure of the Vienna Secession,living in Austria at the end of the 19 th and beginning of the 20 th century.Schiele’s painting philosophy was influenced by the psychological viewpoints,political movements,and wars of his time,seeking self-expression in his paintings,which had both expressive and decorative qualities.Schiele created over a thousand works in his lifetime,among which landscapes play an important role.Schiele’s landscape paintings operate by reconstructing the scenery,in which the line division,object selection,geometric modeling,and color design all have distinctive characteristics,and express a sense of decadence and gloom.This paper analyzes the characteristics and causes of Schiele’s landscape paintings at different times,based on literature on his era,social and family background,and summarizes his line and color styles and emotional expressions through examples.By comparing his works with those of contemporary artists,the paper also summarizes the formal language in Schiele’s paintings.Finally,in connection with author’s own landscape painting practice,the article reflects on Schiele’s works and their implications for creation. |
