In the world,promoting reading for all,especially for teenagers,has always been a task that many governments attach great importance to.Balanced Reading Instruction(abbreviated as BRI)is a reading teaching method that combines alphabetic spelling teaching and whole-language teaching.It enables English teachers to guide students to learn basic syntax and reading strategies and improve their reading ability through syntactic teaching,reading strategy training and diversified reading comprehension activities in a diversified balanced learning situation.The balanced reading teaching method originated and applied in the United States and other western countries where English is the mother tongue.The relevant empirical research of foreign scholars on the balanced reading teaching method has been quite sufficient,and also confirmed the effectiveness of the teaching method.However,in the field of foreign language teaching in China,balanced reading teaching is still a new thing.For our non-native English countries,this teaching method will inevitably encounter some obstacles and problems in the process of localization.S Primary School is a primary school in Q City that adopts the balanced reading teaching method of English.In order to understand the localization implementation of balanced reading teaching in the United States in China and the experience worth promoting,it analyzes the problems and causes in its teaching practice,and puts forward corresponding strategic suggestions based on the problems.This study selects S Primary School as the research object,understands the current situation of English balanced reading teaching in S Primary School through interviews,classroom observation and other research tools,analyzes the data of students’ classroom learning experience questionnaire under this teaching mode,summarizes the experience that S Primary School can learn from and the existing problems in the process of using English balanced reading teaching,analyzes the causes of the problems and puts forward countermeasures for improvement,It is expected to provide new ideas and references for the teaching practice of the majority of primary school English teachers,and has certain rich and reference value for the content of teacher training.It is the first to study and analyze the specific practice of balanced reading teaching at the operational level,which has important guiding value and practical significance for its application to the real primary school English classroom practice.This case study presents a real case of the application of balanced reading method and English teaching in primary schools,analyzes the implementation of school curriculum and balanced reading teaching as well as students’ learning experience in the classroom,proposes optimization strategies for problems in the practice process,and summarizes the practical experience of the localized balanced reading teaching curriculum that is worthy of reference and reference in our primary school English class,It provides case support for the application of balanced reading method in primary school English teaching in China,and also provides reference for future research on balanced reading teaching.
