| With the rapid development of science and technology,popular science texts,as an important means for people to know the world,have attracted worldwide attention.This report takes Sergio Rossi,the professor of the University of Salento,A Journey to the South Pole--Exploring the Future of the White Continent as the material.Under the guidance of Halliday’s register theory,this report analyzes the problems encountered in the translation of popular science texts and summarizes the translation methods.This report is divided into five parts: the first part is the translation task description,which introduces the background and framework of the topic selection of the translation practice report;the second part describes the process of translation practice,which is divided into pre-translation stage,in-translation stage and post-translation stage;the third part is a literature review,which introduces the register theory and its application,and reviews the current research status of popular science text translation;the fourth part is the case analysis.The author analyzes the original text from the level of field,tenor and style,and discusses the corresponding solutions and translation methods by combining the key and difficult cases in the translation process;the fifth part is the summary and reflection part,which reviews the difficulties encountered in the translation process and the solutions proposed by the author,and summarizes the experience and deficiencies in the translation practice.Under the guidance of Halliday’s register theory,the writer tries to achieve the equivalence between the original text and the target text in field,tenor and mode,and achieve the communicative effect of the target text.It is expected that this translation project will provide inspiration and reference for the translation and research of popular science texts. |
