| With the rapid development of computer technology,machine translation has made remarkable progress.Compared with human translation,machine translation is costeffective,fast and convenient,and its advantages are increasingly prominent.However,machine translation still has limitations when translating texts,and it produces texts which still need to be amended by human translators.Therefore,the mode of “machine translation and post-editing(MTPE)” has been increasingly used in the translation sector.Taking the translation of Biography of Qian Xuesen into Chinese as an example,this thesis firstly analyzes the advantages of MTPE,as evidenced by terminology consistency and correct translation of short sentences;secondly,this thesis summarizes the main limitations of machine translation from two perspectives: semantics and discourse.On semantics front,misunderstandings of colloquial words and mistranslations of similes and metaphors by the machine are observed;on discourse front,the errors made by machine include improper cohesion and redundancy.Accordingly,corresponding post-editing solutions for translation are proposed in similar projects.This thesis may serve as a reference for other translators when they apply MTPE in future translation projects.Meanwhile,it is hoped that this thesis will offer a guide to the studies on MTPE. |
