| Geng Dingxiang,as a representative of scholar-type bureaucrats in the middle and late Ming dynasties,he was not only closely connected with the top political officials,but also a follower of the Wang Yangming.He was listed as the "Taizhou Study Case" in Huang Zongxi’s book about Confucianism.Geng Dingxiang regarded academic accomplishment as the basic requirement for being an official in politics,academia is based on "not tolerating it",which means that learning has "three passes",that is,the heart is the way,that is,the heart and the mind,and there are many understandings and plays into play the "daily learning of the people" in Taizhou.Geng had frequent contacts with Chuzhong,Jiangyou,Taizhou faction and others,and actively participated in the lecture movement,which played an important role in the development of Wang Xue in the Hubei Edong region and the Nangi region of Jiangsu in the middle and late Ming Dynasty.In the course of the lecture,with Geng as the center and "node",the "Tiantai faction" was gradually formed in the Jingchu region.In fact,the "Tiantai faction" is not limited to the land of Jingchu,but can be broadly regarded as an academic group formed by the academic network centered on Geng Dingxiang.The diversity of the development direction of psychology,the inclusiveness of academic concepts and the openness of the lecture platform provided the possibility for a hundred flowers and a hundred schools of thought to compete in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,and the "Tiantai faction" was formed and developed in such an academic atmosphere,and Geng’s protégés were the main components of this academic network,and they were in the "Tiantai faction",although there were differences in academic orientation and political concepts,but they had the same academic purpose.Geng Dingxiang does not require that they have the same concept and orientation,but can tolerate each other.Therefore,the members of the "Tiantai faction" also have great respect for Geng Dingxiang.Geng Dingxiang and his disciples worked hard to spread their scholarship in their lectures,making the "Tiantai faction" one of the hundred gardens of academic contention in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. |
