| In 2022,the new Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards were officially introduced.The new standards point out that English teaching should play the overarching role of core literacy and grasp the nurturing value of the English curriculum.Homework is a very important part of English teaching in junior high school,and it is also an important means for teachers to implement teaching objectives and understand the extent of students’ knowledge mastery.The quality of homework design and implementation is an important dimension to improve teachers’ teaching quality and a key measure of the effectiveness of curriculum reform,it is also an important symbol to reflect teachers’ philosophy of human development and professional competence.In the context of a double reduction in education,the design of English homework should be reduced in quantity and improved in quality to promote students’ personalized development.Therefore,how to design good personalized English homework has become the authors’ first choice at this stage of teaching research.Due to the significance of "homework" in education,this study uses the English textbook published by People’s Education Publishing House as an example and uses the entire unit as a basis to conduct an in-depth analysis of homework design in order to answer the following questions:(1)Can personalized homework design enhance students’ interest in learning English?(2)Can personalized English homework help students improve their English outcomes?To effectively answer these questions,the authors first used a questionnaire to conduct a preliminary survey on the current state of English homework design in junior high schools.The survey results revealed that there are issues such as a large amount of homework,a single type of homework,monotonous homework content,and ineffective homework evaluation in English homework design at this stage.As a result,the authors conducted two rounds of optimal design in terms of homework design types,content,and evaluation,aiming to improve students’ listening,speaking,reading,and writing skills and achieve diverse and personalized development.The study concluded that:(1)The design of personalized assignments can increase students’ interest.Students’ attitudes toward homework significantly improved due to the enrichment of homework types,the reduction of homework volume,the enrichment of homework content,and the timeliness of homework evaluation.The author collected 52 valid questionnaires using a five-point Likert scale and designed each questionnaire to have a total score of 125.After the action research,the mean value of the 52 subjects’ overall perception of English homework improved from 70.731 to 90.615.(2)Personalized homework design can improve students’ English performance.The authors divided the students into three levels,and as the interest level increased,the grades of the students at all three levels,as well as the overall grades in listening,reading,and writing,were compared after the study.The mean overall improvement was 1.847 points for the top students,2.15 points for the intermediate students,and 1.333 points for the advanced students.The new assignment design has improved students’ language skills.Of course,against the background of "double reduction",the personalized homework design based on the new curriculum has achieved flexible reduction and a clever increase in effectiveness,cultivating students’ core literacy and promoting their development. |
