The Mongolian version of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha is short for The Sutra of the Past Vows of Medicine Master Vaidurya Light Tathagata,Supreme Mahayana Sutra which Eliminates Disasters and Lengthens Life,and it is an important scripture of Mahayana.The sutra mainly publicizes that people can prevent misfortunes,prolong life,and eliminate sufferings by making offerings to the Medicine Buddha,so it has attracted numerous followers.The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha spreads extremely widely,and now there are Sanskrit,Chinese,Tibetan,Mongolian,Japanese and English versions in the world.The Mongolian version of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha was translated from Tibetan by the monk Manibadala Sagelatuo of the Northern Yuan Dynasty in way of transliteration,later it was included into volume 11 of Secret Teachings of Mongolian Tripitaka · Kangyur.Comparative study on Tibetan and Mongolian sutras is a topic that people of the academic circle concern about very much.This paper will focus on translation characteristics of Mongolian Buddhist classical scriptures and the communication characteristics of Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolian region.However,Mongolian sutras are not only affected by Tibetan,while some sutras are also affected by Sanskrit and Chinese.For this reason,this paper starts from Mongolian version of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha and discusses the translation characteristics of Mongolian Buddhist classical scriptures through Mongolian-Chinese comparative study.This paper takes Mongolian version of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha as research object and compares Mongolian and Chinese versions of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha with methods of literature and comparative research.The reasons for similarities and differences between Mongolian and Chinese versions of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha and the influence are analyzed.This paper is divided into volume 1,volume 2 and the appendix.Volume 1 has four parts:The introduction part introduces research background and significance,domestic and foreign research status,research content and methods,innovation,difficulties,and so on.Chapter 1 describes the content of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha and the overview of Mongolian and Chinese versions.Section 1 briefly introduces the content of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha including the Medicine Buddha,the Eastern Pure Land of Vaidurya Light,the twelve great vows,the eight great bodhisattvas,the practice of the banner of prolonging life and the Lamp,the nine modes of death,and the twelve Yaksha Generals.Section 2and 3 give a detailed introduction of Mongolian and Chinese versions of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha respectively.Chapter 2 carries out a comparative study on texts of Mongolian and Chinese versions of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha.Section 1 compares the texts of the name of the sutra,the participants,the audience,the pure land of Vaidurya light,the twelve great vows,merit and benefit and other content and finds the similarities and differences.Section 2 explores the reasons for similarities and differences between the two versions.Section 3 analyzes the phenomenon of “word-for-word translation” in Mongolian version of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha.Chapter 3 describes the influence of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha on Chinese traditional culture.Section 1 introduces the influence on medical culture from traditional Tibetan medicine,traditional Mongolian medicine,traditional Chinese medicine and other aspects.Section 2 describes the influence on education from “right view”,“precepts”,“the nine modes of death” and other content.Volume 2 consists the following two parts:Party 1 “Latin transliteration of Mongolian version of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha” finishes Latin transliteration of Mongolian version of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha.Part 2 “Buddhist terms comparison between Mongolian and Chinese versions of The Sutra of the Medicine Buddha”makes a Mongolian-Chinese comparison for Buddhist terms in the sutra.The appendix is a photocopy of Mongolian The Sutra of the Past Vows of Medicine Master Vaidurya Light Tathagata,Supreme Mahayana Sutra which Eliminates Disasters and Lengthens Life in volume 11 of Secret Teachings of Mongolian Tripitaka · Kangyur. |
