Tourism has emerged as a crucial industry in China’s economy,with tourism routes and trails serving as vital resources for the sustainable development of the tourism sector.However,compared to Western countries,China’s tourism industry has a relatively short history,monotonous development modes,and a lack of studies on tourism routes.By translating works on tourism routes,this gap can be bridged,and new resources can be provided for China’s tourism industry.This report is centered around the translation of Chapters 2 and 3 of the book Tourism Routes and Trails: Theory and Practice,which focuses on the models and practice of developing tourist routes.The book mentions nearly 150 routes and trails,with case studies included at the end of most chapters.Considering the source text’s characteristics,the report utilizes functional equivalence as its theoretical framework to analyze the translation of typical cases.To ensure that the response of target language readers is substantially the same as that of source language readers,the author recommends several techniques for translating tourism literature.These include supplementing historical,geographical,religious,or cultural information,searching for clues in site pictures,and not being confined to the original form.It is hoped that this report could enhance the practice of English-Chinese translation of tourism route texts and provide valuable references for future translation projects in this field.
