The source text of this translation practice report is selected from the Illustrated History of Textile Technology in Ancient China.Taking the image information related to textile technology in ancient Chinese art works as a clue,the authors do systematic historical researches on the origin of textile technology in ancient China,the preliminary processing of textile raw materials,Fangzhuan(a textile tool used in ancient China for doubling and stranding),spinning wheel,loom and other aspects.In the first section of the second chapter of the book,there are detailed interpretation and re-examination of the preliminary processing of silk fiber.Drawing silk from cocoon is the first step of silk weaving,and silk is one of the symbols of ancient China.Therefore,it is an important part of China`s textile technology “going global”to let the world know about ancient Chinese silk processing technology.In this C-E translation practice,the translator takes Aixelá`s culture-specific items translation strategies and Nida`s functional equivalence theory as the guidance to analyze the language characteristics,and translate the terminology involved in the preliminary processing of silk.This report first makes a detailed interpretation and translation of culture-specific items including the textile utensils,silk processing technology,ancient poems and classical Chinese,and focuses on the functional equivalence translation methods of Chinese run-on sentences,sentences without subjects,logical connection,and word order.The translation aims to faithfully reproduce the cultural connotation of textile technology in ancient China.The translator hopes that this translation practice can provide referential translation experience for texts in textile material processing,so that future learners and researchers in this field can have translation cases as a reference and play a reference role in their research.
