| In the context of promoting reading,children’s literature,as an essential part of children’s reading,has played a crucial role in children learning and growing up.The translated works of foreign children’s literature are constantly coming into China,but the quality of their translation is far from satisfactory.Therefore,more research and talents in translating children’s literature are required.And more attention should be paid to this area.This report is based on the translator’s translation of the children’s book A Perfect Time for Pandas,written by an American translator Mary Pope Osborne.This book mainly tells the story of a pair of siblings who travel to Sichuan,China,in a magic tree house to find a particular thing and complete their adventure.The translator translated the book under the guidance of eco-translatology theory.After completing the one-third part of the first-attempt translation,she invited some young readers to read it and comment on it.Based on the feedback from these readers,she continued with the work with a modified translation method.According to the different ecological environments of the source text and the target text,this report analyzes the translator’s translation of A Perfect Time for Pandas from translational eco-environment,translator-centredness and three-dimensional transformations.Translational eco-environment provides the translator with new ideas and perspectives for translation,translator-centredness encourages the translator to do translation in an initiative way,and three-dimensional transformations offer the translator with theoretical analysis framework.In linguistic transformation,the translator has tried many translation strategies and skills at the lexical,phonological and sentence level.At the lexical and phonological level,the translator uses colloquial words and four-character phrases for being close to target readers,and applies reduplicated words,onomatopoeia and rhymes to build a dynamic picture.At the sentence level,in order to cater to the reading habits of target readers,long and difficult sentences are divided into simple sentences,passive sentences are transformed into active sentences,and anthropomorphic and exaggerated rhetorical devices are added to make the translation easier to understand and read.In cultural transformation,the translator uses the translation skills of annotation and unit conversion so that readers can understand the culture of other countries and enjoy the process of reading.In communicative transformation,the translator mainly uses the translation skills of addition and subtraction so that the target readers can accurately understand the information conveyed by the source text and realize the communicative intention.This paper may serve as reference for the study of children’s literature translation.This translation practice report is divided into five parts.Chapter one is the introduction of the translation project,including the background,purpose and significance of the project.Chapter two is a description of the translation process.there is an innovation of the translation practice report.the translator took full advantage of her own career as a leader of a children-reading promotion school,she made some first-hand investigations into the book types the children and parents prefer,their language preferences,and the translation methods they would take if they were asked to translate a foreign book.they help the author a lot in the choice of the book to be translated,translation strategies to be taken,and the language style to be adopted.Chapter three is a theoretical introduction,which mainly introduces the core research perspectives of eco-translatology theory and the application of eco-translatology studies in children’s literature.Chapter four is the case study,using examples to analyze the specific guiding role of linguistic,cultural,and communicative dimensions and to find translation techniques in children’s literature.Chapter five concludes the report,including the gains and shortcomings and some proposals for future research. |
