Based on translation examples, this paper explores the practical application of image schema theory in popular tourism texts. The original version of this translation practice report is taken from Adventure Tourism: Environmental Impact and Management,co-written by David Hadart and Tim Stout of Liverpool John Moores University in England. This book mainly tells about different kinds of adventure tourism forms and the positive and negative influences of human beings on ecological environment and other factors in adventure tourism activities. The author expounds how to solve the problems brought by adventure tourism to ecological environment and other factors. In this translation practice report, the author excerpts the sixth chapter, which mainly discusses various forms of adventure tourism in the Arctic region of Canada, and the protection measures taken according to local conditions when dealing with the negative impact of adventure tourism activities on the ecological environment.Image schema is one of the important research areas in cognitive linguistics. This concept is based on people’s perception, interaction and experience in real life, and it is a thinking activity before human language.Image schema is produced in human daily behavior and activities, which connects seemingly unrelated activities with each other, thus endowing them with concrete cognitive logic and structure, and is an abstract generalization of human experience. Both the source domain and the target domain of metaphor are rich in image schema structure, which can be used to understand and translate metaphor.Based on translation examples, this practical report discusses the practical application of this theory in the process of translating popular tourism texts into Chinese, and finally verifies the applicability of image schema theory in completing text translation, which can effectively broaden the cognitive breadth and promote the practicality and specialization of translation. In addition,it also plays a propaganda role to a certain extent, and provides a unique perspective and useful reference for promoting the prosperity and development of tourism at home and abroad. This translation practice report carries out case analysis and translation of entity metaphor, structure metaphor and orientation metaphor from the perspective of image schema metaphor by giving examples and analyzing metaphors appearing in Chapter6 of Adventure Tourism: Environmental Impacts and Management. This thesis is divided into five parts: Chapter One mainly introduces the background information of the source text and the importance of the translation practice; The second chapter discusses the process of translation task, which is divided into three parts:pre-translation preparation,in-translation process and post-translation matters;Chapter Three introduces and expounds the translation theories guiding the translation practice and the differences between image schema metaphor and image metaphor; The fourth chapter selects representative examples from the book, analyzes the practical application of image schema theory in the translation of these examples, and puts forward corresponding translation strategies; The fifth chapter is a summary of the translator’s translation practice, and the inspiration and gain from this translation practice, hoping to provide valuable reference for the related translation work in the future.
