Abstract/Summary:
“Eight Memories in Watercolor” is a suit composed by Tan Dun in 1978-1979 when studying in Central Conservatory of Music,is an early work in his composing stage,consisting of eight short tunes but in different styles.It combines Hunan traditional music with western composing skills,and describes the memories of childhood in his hometown meanwhile expresses his strong homesickness.This paper contains three part.The first chapter introduces the composer Tan Dun and features of his music composing in different period.The second part discusses the background,characteristics and intension of this suit.The last chapter analysis the performance skills from key-touching and pedal,moreover,the writer compares the performing versions of Lang Lang and Zhang Haochen,combing it with own practice experience.This article probes into the artistic characteristics and music conception,aiming to provide reference basis for other performers and appreciators to comprehend this work better.
