| The source text of this translation project is the first and second chapters of a doctoral dissertation titled The Use of Mobile-Assisted Language Learning to Acquire English by Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education.Using Krashen’s comprehensible input hypothesis and Moreno and Mayer’s cognitive-affective theory of multimodal learning as the theoretical framework,the dissertation studies the online learning tools that young Latinx immigrants adopt when learning English in the United States and the obstacles they encounter in using them.The translation of non-finite verbs is the main difficulty of this translation project.Given the text type of the source text,informative text,it is the primary task of this translation to ensure that the information is accurate and that the reader can obtain the maximum meaningful relevance with the least cognitive effort so that the information in the original text can be easily understood.The translator chooses the Relevance Theory as the guiding theory and uses a variety of translation techniques,including division,conversion,addition,and inversion,to produce a Chinese version that can realize the optimal relevance of the information intended by the author,ensuring that the reader of the translation can easily and accurately understand the information in the original text with minimal effort to obtain maximum meaningful relevance.An analysis of typical cases of the target text indicates that the application of multiple translation techniques is effective in offering optimal relevance to the Chinese reader. |
