A Report On The Translation Of Fragile Power:Why Having Everything Is Never Enough(Chapter 3)

This is a report on the Translation of chapter 3 of Fragile Power: Why Having Everything Is Never Enough.Chapter 3,titled Vanity: Self-Worth,Vulnerability,and the Narcissism Nexus introduces narcissism through the cases of narcissists,revealing to the reader what narcissism is like,the reason of it,and the relation between vanity,self-worth,vulnerability and narcissism.This project helps the target reader to better understand Narcissism and to cultivate a normal heart and right attitude towards psychological problems.Guided by communicative translation and semantic translation,this report exemplifies the difficulties encountered during the process of translation and solutions to them from three aspects: lexical level,syntactic level and textual level in the form of case analysis.It is revealed from the translation that translation difficulties encountered in the source text include polysemy,nominalization,long sentences,complex sentences and text cohesion.To ensure the completeness of messages conveyed form the source text and the readability of the translation,suitable solutions to these translation difficulties must be adopted,including conversion of the part of speech,division,restructuring,amplification and reiteration.
