Since the beginning of the new century,China’s film industry has developed rapidly,and films have been given new connotations by the times.As an important ideological form conveyed by mainstream social values and national spirit,new mainstream films that conform to the needs of the times came into being.Since the2009 "The Founding of a Republic" series of films,new mainstream films have achieved a double harvest of box office word-of-mouth,occupying half of the Chinese film market.The new mainstream film breaks the traditional "trichotomy" division of "main theme films,literary films,and commercial films",and has become a new type of film that tells Chinese stories and transmits mainstream values with the value connotation of the main theme,commercial narrative methods,and artistic image techniques.The success of new mainstream films,in addition to the development of technology and the transformation of narrative,is more important to achieve the effective resonance of the film and the audience and meet the emotional needs of the audience.This research focuses on new mainstream films,first distinguishes and defines the concepts of "new mainstream films" and "main theme films",and sorts out the development process of new mainstream films.Then,taking empathy communication as the base point,combined with journalism and communication and psychology related knowledge to explore,the author finds that the benign interaction between the film and the audience will stimulate the superposition effect of empathy communication similar to "matryoshka doll",and the occurrence of empathy communication effect follows the realization path of "emotional contagion-point of viewpoint-prosocial behavior".The film realizes the emotional infection of the audience "by things and me" through technical means,character shaping,narrative methods and other texts,and the audience completes the point of view of "by me and things" through the experience and imagination of the film,and the audience,as a "textual subject" and "social subject",will produce a more comprehensive cognitive judgment and emotional response to the film,and produce corresponding prosocial behavior,which is the realization path of empathy communication in new mainstream films.In recent years,the new mainstream films have effectively used the empathy communication strategy and played an effective role in national image publicity and historical memory output,but the new mainstream films also face some problems in the application of empathy communication,and it is necessary to avoid problems such as empathy polarization and anti-empathy caused by improper lyricism and homogeneous content.
