In the pursuit of consistency between commercial and mainstream values, the new mainstream films have made initial attempts at cross-media narratives, giving rise to several phenomenal works such as the "The Battle at Lake Changjin" series of films, which have brought together multiple audiences on the online platform, creating a larger space for emotional interaction and bringing about stronger emotional mobilization and emotional infection. This study focuses on these vibrant emotional communication practices. This study focuses on these vivid emotional communication phenomena, places the study of emotional communication of new mainstream films within the scope of communication science, takes human emotions and feelings as an investigable and recordable research object, selecting the new mainstream films on the theme of resistance to the United States and aid to North Korea,"The Sacrifice","The Battle at Lake Changjin" and "The Battle at Lake Changjin II" as the research objects, and adopts a combination of methods such as text analysis, online field research, and comparative research.Through the analysis and examination of the emotions and emotional expression characteristics of the audiences of new mainstream films in a specific subject matter and research area,we summarise certain characteristics of the emotional communication of new mainstream films in the Internet era and cross-media context, explore the extended emotional interaction space and the transmission of value cores, the superimposed emotional interaction and the multiplication of communication effectiveness, and specifically answer the following questions: whether cross-media plays a role in the emotional communication of new mainstream films? Does cross-media play a "brick and mortar" role in the emotional communication of new mainstream cinema? How does cross-media narrative promote the effectiveness of emotional communication in new mainstream films by extending the space for emotional interaction and deepening the transmission of film values? This paper examines three new mainstream films with the same theme in a specific research area and finds that the audience sentiment and emotional expressions of the three films share common characteristics and differ greatly, and their emotional communication effectiveness shows a clear stepped increase. The emotional experience of the audience of the "The Battle at Lake Changjin" series is multi-media in origin, and its emotional expression is focused and high-intensity in theme, achieving empathy and sympathy on a wider scale, constructing a strong national identity, and thus building a high bond with the story world constructed by the film based on value identification. While considering the progressive effectiveness of emotional communication triggered by the same subject matter and "series" of films, this paper places it in the context of media convergence and examines the relationship between the cross-media adaptation of films, the cross-media reading of audiences, and the cross-media transformation of film texts, and the emotional communication of new mainstream films. The study finds that, based on the serializability and cross-medialisation of the core story, the "The Battle at Lake Changjin" series achieves access between sub-stories through explicit cross-media adaptation, implicit cross-media reference, and audience participatory production, and heterogeneously co-constructs an ever-expanding story world with a grand worldview.Interactive media presentation,cross-media derivative narratives, and media overlays draw in a wider audience, construct a collective memory based on the story world, awaken the emotions of the national community, help the audience to establish their identity and place themselves, and build a space for emotional interaction that lasts in time and extends in space. The cross-media and diversified audience groups are repeatedly overlapping and cyclically interacting with each other, generating a ripple spread and multi-layered emotional interaction, releasing huge emotional energy and bringing about cognitive overlap under multiple channels, from primary emotional construction to deep value construction, realizing the national identity from individual expression to collective group shaping, and continuously consolidating the audience’s identity and national consciousness. The rapid development of digital technology has triggered a real revolution in the history of human emotional communication, and the emotional communication of new mainstream films cannot avoid the new issues brought by this revolution and must meet the opportunities and challenges brought by cross-media narratives. In this study,we believe that some of the new mainstream films have already begun to possess the attributes of cross-media narratives, and the influence of cross-media narratives on the emotional communication of new mainstream films has already occurred and will be further deepened, which will have a profound impact on the future development of new mainstream films, the communication of Chinese mainstream values and the enhancement of cultural soft power. This trend will have a profound impact on the future development of new mainstream cinema, the dissemination of Chinese mainstream values, and the enhancement of cultural soft power. While studying and examining the positive contribution of cross-media narratives to the communication of emotions in new mainstream cinema, this study also provides preliminary thoughts on the regulation of irrational emotional states, the marketization of political mobilization logic, and the universalization of film value expression in this process,to provide reliable disciplinary research results for the development of new mainstream cinema as an industry. |
