A Report On Simulated C-E Consecutive Interpretation Of The Figure Interview Of Xu Yuanchong Based On Interpretive Theory

The figure interview TV program,one important video form of social culture delivery,usually offers the audience a good platform to get close to positive figures from different fields through their stories,which are worth to be sharing in and outside of the country.Qualified interpretation of the figure interview can pave the way for better understanding among foreign audience.Compared with the big number of foreign similar programs importing to China,our export of such culture program abroad needs to be promoted.This practice report selected The Figure Interview of Xu Yuanchong from “Kevin’s Hour”,a top figure interview program launched by Dragon TV,for simulated interpretation.With the guidance of Interpretive Theory,the author completed the C-E interpreting of The Figure Interview of Xu Yuanchong by addressing various difficulties including culture-loaded expressions,poem-related message barriers,incomplete sentences,and repetition of contents.It is hoped that the study of the figure interview interpreting will be helpful for introducing Chinese academic experts and their achievements to the foreigners so as to promote the exchange of academic disciplinary development and the communication of Chinese-featured culture as well.This is a simulated consecutive interpretation report about The Figure Interview of Xu Yuanchong.The report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is the task description,which introduces the background,significance and structure of the interpretation practice report.The second chapter is theoretical framework of Interpretive Theory by explaining its value in guiding the figure interview interpreting.The third chapter describes the whole interpreting process,including pre-interpretation preparation,while interpreting process and post interpretation quality feedback.The fourth chapter is the case study,a detail analysis of interpreting problems and corresponding solutions in the interpretation of The Figure Interview of Xu Yuanchong under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory.The fifth chapter concludes the main findings of the report on the practice of consecutive interpretation.This report has the following findings:(1)The author encountered some obstacles in the interpreting process,namely Chinese culture-loaded expressions,incomplete sentences,repeated contents,repeated question patterns,etc.Under the guidance of interpretive theory,relevant translation strategies and skills are put forward,such as adaptation in content,amplification,omission and adaptation paraphrasing.(2)To deal with four-character Chinese words,culture-loaded words and poetry translation in the interview calls for the bilingual processing ability and improvisation ability.Sorting out relevant vocabularies before interpretation is conducive to reducing the difficulty of interpretation.(3)According to the specific context of the original text,the meaning of some Chinese expressions has changed,so it is necessary to create special expression forms of the target language to correctly obtain the meaning.Through the case study,this report indicates that Interpretive Theory can be used to guide the interpretation of figure interview.In the process of interpreting figure interview,the author should carefully deal with the interpretation of culture-loaded words and Chinese ancient poems in particular.At the same time,appropriate Interpretive Theory translation strategies should be adopted to enhance the audience’s understanding and acceptability so as to gain more recognition from foreign audiences.
