A Report On The Mock Consecutive Interpreting Of The Keynote Speeches In Transport Power Forum In Jiangxi Province Based On Relevance Theory

In order to break down the language barriers and promote technical exchanges among countries,consecutive interpretation has always played a significant role in international conferences.Science and technology has always been a crucial topic,as they are closely related to people’s basic needs,as well as the economic development of society and country.Since the 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,it has become an urgent need to accelerate the construction of national strategic talent forces and realize the importance of high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement.This interpretation practice report selected the speeches of the two academicians in the2021 Jiangxi “Transport Power” forum as simulated interpretation material,based on Relevance Theory to guide the author in this C-E conference interpretation practice.Additionally,the author analyzed two scientific and technological speeches of Qian Feng and Jiang Fengyi through comparing the interpretation cases including the original and revised version.The content of the two speeches is revolved around artificial intelligence,digital transformation,and technological innovation.Furthermore,the speeches contain the characteristics of strong professionalism,dense information,variable speaking speed.Based on the introduction of the conference background,the text characteristics of conference interpretation and the challenges as well as the difficulties that the interpreters may encounter during consecutive interpretation,such as time management,and different cultural context have been analyzed.According to the definition of Relevance Theory,the interpreters need to explicitly understand the relevant cultural context,and use it as the basis to strengthen the conversion of perspectives,and master the interpretation skills,including organizing and reorganizing the information,and expression methods,etc.On the basis of strictly controlling the process of task preparation,interpreting process and post interpreting,the author analyzed the practical use of the linguistic context and non-linguistic strategy in the consecutive interpretation,and tackled the difficulties such as long sentence patterns and cultural differences.This report,under the guidance of Relevance Theory,has the following findings through this simulated consecutive interpreting: 1.Relevance Theory and related strategies have great help in improving the accuracy and efficiency of consecutive interpretation,as well as guiding the application research of interpretation.2.By strictly controlling the three stages: task preparation,interpreting process and post interpreting,the quality of the output interpretation have been further improved.3.As a speaker,the interpreter needs to seek the optimal relevance from the context,and combine his own experience with the cognitive environment,encyclopedic knowledge and other information.Through this interpretation practice,the author also finds that Relevance Theory has certain practical and theoretical value in task interpretation and conference interpretation,and it can provide certain guidance and reference for modern technology theme interpreting practice in the future.In addition,this interpreting practice report will help interpreters have a better understanding of linguistic and non-linguistic context of conference interpretation,improving the quality of consecutive interpretation,and ultimately better achieving the goal of effective communication.
