A Report On The Translation Of Power,media And The Covid-19 Pandemic: Framing Public Discourse(Chapters 13 And 14)

The translation report is based on the Chapter 13 and Chapter 14 of the book Power,Media and the Covid-19 Pandemic: Framing Public Discourse written by Stuart Price and Ben Harbisher.The two chapters focus on whether homelessness in the UK has been resolved following the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic through an analysis of politic,media and public discourse;and how the issue has evolved into an emergency in the context of the pandemic guided by theories such as Foucault’s biopolitics.The translation project aims to help readers understand why homelessness is of particular importance to the government in the context of the epidemic,and what concrete measures are being taken to address the problem.According to Peter Newmark’s theory of text type,the original text belongs to the informative text.To translate this type of text,the translator should carefully analyze the linguistic features of the text and accurately convey the information of the original text,so as to help readers fully understand the original text.Therefore,in order to better achieve the translation purpose,based on the Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the report lists three types of difficulties encountered in the translation process,namely,nominalization,complex sentences and coherence of the text,by analyzing the original text,and adopts translation techniques such as conversion,addition,division,restructuring,and omission to deal with them.
