A Report On The E-C Translation Of The Bouncebackability: Factor End Burnout,Gain Resilience,and Change The World(Chapters 5-12)

This is a translation report on the translation of chapters 5-12 from the book named The Bouncebackability: Factor End Burnout,Gain Resilience,and Change the World which was written by Caitlin Donovan in June 2020.The selected chapters illustrate seven reasons causing burnout.In this era when the burnout culture is popular,fashionable and trendy,it is easy for people to burn out.The translation of selected chapters aims to help target readers learn more about the reasons causing burnout,finding solutions based on their own experience,so as to end burnout.According to the text type theory put forward by Katharina Reiss,the source text of this translation project is the informative text.The translator,guided by the Relevance Theory put forward by Dan Sperber and Deirdre Wilson,has put the focus on the author’s communicative intentions and readers’ cognitive environment,so as to achieve the optimal relevance.This report consists of Introduction,Analysis of the Source Text,Theoretical Framework,Translation Difficulties and Solutions as well as Conclusion.It lists the translation of metaphors,proper nouns and terms as its translation difficulties and analyzes them in details.During the translation process,the translator is guided by the Relevance Theory.In order to achieve the optimal relevance,the translator,combining her own translation experience and the classification of translation methods and techniques put forward by other scholars,uses translation methods such as idiomatic translation,literal translation and paraphrase as well as some translation techniques such as addition to address these translation difficulties.This report,with a large number of translation examples,gives the translator reference while translating metaphors,proper nouns and terms in informative texts in the future.
