This is a report on the translation of The Digital Factory: The Human Labor of Automation,of which Chapter 2 is the source text.Chapter 2 mainly talks about the automation of logistics and the persistence and transformation of logistical labor driven by computer information technology. In recent years, the wide application of intelligence has changed the traditional service model, and the logistics industry becomes the most representative industry in the transformation and upgrading of intelligent services.Although the logistic industry has largely become intelligent in such aspects as packaging and distribution, human labor still plays a prominent role in logistics. This project can give the public a better insight into the relationship between automation and labor by conveying as accurately as possible the information in the source text on the human labor of logistics automation.Taking the register theory as her guide, the translator mainly discusses translation difficulties that the translator has encountered during the translation as well as corresponding techniques from two register variables—field and tenor. At the field level, the translator mainly adopts annotation, zero translation, shift and semantic explication to deal with terminologies and abstract nouns;at the tenor level, the translator mainly adopts turning phrases into clauses, omission, division and restructuring to address nominalization and long sentences. Finally, the translator summarizes the experience she has gained from this project, and points out the problems which remain to be solved.
