In recent years,Intellectual Property protection has attracted more and more attention in China, but its relevant laws are still imperfect. The United States, the forerunner in this field, has a relatively sound legal system, which can provide some references for Chinese researchers to establish a complete Intellectual Property legal system. In light of this situation, the translator chose the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Manual of Procedure(TBMP)as the translation material, according to Skopos theory advocated by German scholar Hans J Vermeer,to solve the typical problems in the E-C translation of the legal texts of Intellectual Property. This paper is a translation practice report about legal texts of Intellectual Property.Because of typically professionalism of the text and the structural differences between English and Chinese in expression, the translator encountered some problems such as the wrong comprehension of words and sentences, inappropriate translation of long sentences, deficient cohesion and coherence of translated sentences and paragraphs and so on.Those problems lexical, syntactic, and textual level.Their original translations were revised and embellished under the three principles of Skopos theory, including Skopos rule, coherence rule, and fidelity rule to improve the accuracy, readability and fluency of the translation.Based on the above analysis, the translator concludes that the legal texts of Intellectual Property are standardized and unified in the format. So translators should first establish glossaries to achieve the accuracy and unity of the terminology and proper nouns by literal translation.Omission can be adopted when some words don’t conform to Chinese expression habits. For long and complex sentences of the text, translators can use translation techniques such as division, reconstructing, and conversion to solve "long and difficult sentences".Finally, translators ought to pay attention to textual cohesion and coherence to maintain the form consistency and content coherence in discourse. The translator hopes to raise the specific problems to a conclusive level to provide experience and reference for the research of related legal texts and translators to a certain degree.
