Pan Jiang was a representative figure in the poetry circle of Tongcheng in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Pan Jiang highly praises the poems of Bai Juyi,a poet in the Middle Tang Dynasty, and draws his poems from Bai Juyi. This paper focuses on the theme of Panjiang’s "Zong Bai",and discusses Panjiang’s poems from three aspects: background, creation practice and significance.Firstly,it discusses the background of Zong Bai in Panjiang’s poems. In terms of the historical background, when Pan Jiang lived in Yi Dynasty,as a witness to the war,he faced the tragic social reality at that time and wrote a large number of realistic poems,in which he expressed what he heard and felt, lamented the difficulties of the people’s livelihood and expressed his sorrow for the loss of the country. As far as the poetry was concerned, the poetry style of Zong Bai emerged in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, especially the public security school and Tongcheng poets. At the same time,Pan Jiang and Bai Juyi have a similar life and spiritual journey, which further draws him closer to Bai Juyi.It is not difficult to find Panjiang’s interest in Bai Juyi and Bai poetry. For example, the words "Bai Lotte","Bai Fu" and "Bai poetry" directly related to Bai Juyi appear.Pan Jiang’s study of Bai Juyi’s poetry creation is mainly reflected in the application of Bai Juyi’s poetry, directly borrow Bai poetry and transform Bai classics into his own poetry. At the same time,Pan Jiang also made great efforts to imitate Bai Juyi’s allegorical poems.Bai Juyi,as a realist poet, emphasized allegory and advocated the use of poetry to reflect the real social life and express concerns about the real society. For Bai Juyi’s claim,Pan Jiang is deeply impressed. In the face of the turbulent social environment,Pan Jiang copied Bai Juyi and reproduced the history of the time with sharp brushstrokes, writing poems that reflected the suffering of people’s livelihood, such as the Variation of Yuefu and the Song of the Economy.Around the 9th year of Shunzhi(1652),Pan Jiang first advocated the Yuan Bai Changqing style in Tongcheng, and advocated this idea to his friends Fang Wen,Xu Laihui,Chen Shi and others. For a time, the patriarchal Bai poetry became the local poetics fashion in Tongcheng. This trend also influenced the literati around Pan Jiang, such as Fang Wen,Zhang Ying,Dai Mingshi, etc.,who were also deeply influenced by Zongbai thought. At the same time,Pan Jiang and other poets in the early Qing Dynasty opposed the trend of praising Du and dethroning Bai and held that Du Bai was actually coquetry, which virtually promoted the status of Bai poetry. In short, based on Panjiang’s literary works, this paper takes the political society and poetics atmosphere of the early Qing Dynasty as the background to reveal the source behind Panjiang’s Buddhism.Based on Panjiang’s poetics theory and creation practice, this paper studies the specific expression of Zong Bai in Panjiang’s poems and examines the special feature of Panjiang’s acceptance of Bai Juyi.On this basis, explore the influence of Panjiang’s poetry Zong Bai on Tongcheng poetry circle and even the poetry circle in the early Qing Dynasty.
