A Study On The Phan Canh Trung’s Creative Treason In Vietnam Translation Of "Condor Heroes"

The translation of Chinese classics is a significant approach for the dissemination of Chinese culture.Naturally,it is important for translators to think about better ways to disseminate Chinese culture through classics translation.Louis Cha’s errant knight novels are so well-known and influential at home and abroad that they become one of the pioneers that help Chinese culture to “go-out”.As one of his representative works,Condor Heroes has been translated and introduced to many countries.It has also been translated by many translators in Vietnam.The one named Than Dieu Dai Hiep by Phan Canh Trung makes a great hit,therefore it has the most extensive and far-reaching influence in Vietnam.Based on theories of creative treason,this thesis makes a systematic study on Phan’s version from the perspective of media-translatology.The result of this study demonstrates that creative treason in Phan’s version perfectly resonates with Vietnamese traditional culture,national psychology,spirit,and ideology.Creative treason in translation helps the dissemination of Chinese culture,at the same time shows Vietnamese national characteristics,which lead to a closer emotion with Vietnamese readers.As a result,the version become a classic.Phan’s version indicates that Chinese literature and culture has a close relationship with the Vietnamese ones.It also provides new insights and ideas for the translation of Chinese classics in the new era.
