| Reading plays a vital role in high school students’ English learning achievements and comprehensive skills in senior high school.The English Curriculum Standard for General High School(2017 Edition)emphasizes the comprehensive cultivation of students’ language ability,learning ability,cultural awareness and thinking quality.Therefore,it is necessary for teachers to adopt more effective teaching methods or models in the teaching process.5E instructional model is an inquiry-based instructional model.It includes five phases,which are engagement phase,exploration phase,explanation phase,elaboration phase and evaluation phase.This research applies 5E instructional model to English reading teaching in senior secondary school based on the discovery learning theory,constructivism learning theory,and humanistic learning theory.In this experiment,the participants are from Ping Liang No.5 Middle School in Gansu province.Two parallel classes from Grade One are chosen randomly as experimental class(Class 9)and control class(Class 10).The whole research lasts 4 months from September to December in 2022.This research answers two questions: 1)What are the effects of 5E instructional model on senior high school students’ English reading strategies? 2)What are the effects of 5E instructional model on senior high school students’ English reading achievements?During this experiment,5E instructional model is applied in the experimental class.And traditional PWP model is adopted in the control class.Research instruments include a questionnaire and tests.After the experiment,the data are analyzed by SPSS 27.0.The findings are as follows: 1)5E instructional model can cultivate senior high school students’ English reading strategies,including global reading strategy,problem solving strategy and support reading strategy.2)5E instructional model can enhance senior high school students’ English reading achievements,namely achievements of word-meaning guessing questions,detail judgment questions,main idea questions and inference questions. |
